Hieroglyphs,
from the Greek words for "sacred writing" are the most well known of the ancient
pictorial writing systems being in continuous use throughout dynastic Egypt,
over three thousand years. The style of
the glyphs varied though history, these three glyphs being adapted from a
papyrus now in the Brooklyn Museum of Art.
