History
of Faberge Eggs: 18th-19th Century Imperial court
jeweler Carl Fabergé and his craftsmen created magnificent eggs of various
designs by specific request for Russian nobility
and European dignitaries. In 1886 the House of Fabergé was granted an
annual commission by Russian Czar,
Alexander III, to produce "the
most beautiful eggs in the world," eggs for the Imperial family.
These imaginatively designed eggs were meticulously crafted in
Gold and Silver
using enamel, precious gems and semiprecious
stones. Examples of
