History:
From a gold original in the
Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. The hoop ornamented on the outside with a repeating
cross pattern symbolizing united love and Christianity. 'God unite both in love'
is engraved on the interior.
Poesy or love rings are bands engraved with
a small poem or sentiment. These inscribed rings are found as early as classical
times but reached their greatest popularity in the 16th and 17th century. Often
they were used as wedding rings, a lover’s token, or as a means of showing
regard. Each ring ships complete with
history card and gift wrap.
