History: This striking cuff
bracelet has been created from the shape of an ancient Greek finger ring of
around the 9th or 8th century, BC. The original ring was made from sheet
gold and is therefore much thinner, but the profile and texture of the metal
have been faithfully recreated. The varied ribbing effects in the metal
are typical of this transitional period between the metalwork of the Mycenaean
period around 1100BC and the beginnings of the archaic period, when Greek art
began to be influenced by the oriental traditions of Persia and beyond. As
a link between it's ancient origins and it's modern wearer, the word : Goddess
appears in Greek, as if impressed into the metal, with the contemporary
inscription in English on the interior. |
