History:
This softly shaped tactile pendant is in the form of a heart formed by a
ribbon, a continuous circuit with no beginning and no end. It is engraved
with a sentiment expressing the selflessness of love. The inscription is
well suited to this open heart shape, being a representation of the idea that
giving and receiving are one in the same. Examples of jewelry engraved
with sentiments of love and friendship are known from the earliest civilizations
of the ancient world, and remain popular to this day. Posy rings, that is,
rings bearing a short poem or inscription, were most popular in the 16th and
17th century France and England, being frequently mentioned in the plays of
Shakespeare.
