History:
This early 15th century original can be found at the
Victoria & Albert Museum, London England. The original ring was engraved
in French, “vous et nul autre,” meaning, “you and no other,” in Gothic
script. French remained the language of nobility until the late medieval
period. Inscribed decorations and foliate patterns surround the lettering.
The ring shows the exact unevenness of the original medieval engraving
which was an entirely hand made ring, showing the marks of time and its
long history.
