Amor Meus Latin Poesy Ring
History: Amor Meus translates as, “My Love.” Poesy, or love rings are found as early as classical times, but reached their greatest popularity during the 16th and 17th centuries. Typically, these were given in silver, as a means of showing regard, as a romantic token of affection, or as an engagement or betrothal ring, and then replaced with Gold or Platinum upon marriage.
Most popular in England, these rings were often engraved in French or Latin, the languages of the nobility and scholarship. Poesy Rings reached the pinnacle of their popularity during classical times, and are frequently mentioned in Shakespearian plays.
